Oh A Little Princess, a traumatising childhood tale of riches to rags, complete with a possibly dead father, a soldier with amnesia, and a vindictive headmistress who makes our heroine, Sara’s, life a living hell.
Please remind us how this is a children’s film again? Regardless, nothing says nostalgia like a recently bereaved and penniless child talking to a doll in a dusty attic, right?
Miss Minchin (Eleanor Bron) – THEN
Up there with the Trunchbull and Ms Hannigan with people who really should not be in an industry where they are responsible for multiple children, Miss Minchin is the original villain of the film.
After being trusted by Sara’s father to look after her and spare no expense, she goes full 180 switch after he’s reported dead and the money stops coming in. She banishes her up to the attic, and steals her mother’s locket to cover her costs – just plain shrew.
Eleanor Bron, who plays Miss Minchin, was a hugely famous and successful actress before A Little Princess came along, but since then, she’s continued to act in films such as Wimbledon and TV shows like Ab Fab and Fat Friends.
