‘Love Island’ hunk Adam Collard has revealed he had issues with his weight and diet when he was a teenager, and it took hard work to ditch his former physique.
The former ‘Love Island’ star has admitted while he looked “muscly and very lean” when he entered the villa, it took a lot of work to get there after having a very different experience in his youth.
Adam, now 22, appeared on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ and said:
“It’s funny because when I walked into the Villa I was 16 stone but very muscly and very lean.
“But I was also that exact 16 stone at 14, 15. But seriously overweight and had a lot of food issues and exactly the same weight.”
Fitness coach Adam added that passion is vital for people wanting to train themselves, and urged them not to compare themselves to how he looks now.
He explained that his appearance in photoshoots comes from “extreme” techniques to “get everything to start popping out”.
He also revealed it was difficult getting away from how he looked as a teenager, but he said seeing that progress was a huge inspiration.
He said:
“As much as it was a hard time going from that overweight kid, my most enjoyable year at the gym was when I went from the overweight kid and started seeing the progress.
“Because training now is boring cos I’m already there. It’s not as fun as when I was actually seeing the progress a lot more everyday.”
Meanwhile, Adam insisted that he still cares for former flame Zara McDermott despite their recent split.
He said:
“Absolutely. It’s really hard because it would be easy to get out of a relationship if someone had done anything wrong. But that’s just not the case. We’re just not getting on right now and it’s hard.
“We’re not a couple, we’re not a couple. Zara has categorically said, Adam has not done anything wrong for me it’s just what I’m facing. It’s hard to get over that.”
Zara announced her split from Adam last week, in an Instagram post in which she stated she was “heartbroken” by the news.
She wrote:
“I am heartbroken to announce that Adam and I have parted ways. I love him very much and will always have a special place in my heart for him and our time spent together.
I have tried so hard to be the best person I can possibly be and to make it work.
Sometimes in life, you just aren’t enough for someone; no matter what do for them or how much you try to me.
For everyone asking if I’m OK, I don’t know that I am. But I know that soon I will be. I will be strong and prove to myself that I can get through this.”
