The rise of sea levels in the Philippines – BEFORE
Typhoon Haiyan – also known as Super Typhoon Yolanda – left devastation in its wake when it hit parts of Southeast Asia. Many parts of the country were left under water.
Here’s a bit of history…
In the last 50 years, since the industrialisation of the Philippines, the sea level has increased more than 80 cm.
OK – it might not sound like a lot – but here’s the damage…
In ten or twenty years, coastal areas around the country’s capital – Manila – will be permanently underwater. Yep, that’s millions of people’s homes… completely submerged.
