Drought in Calarasi, Southern Romania – BEFORE

When it comes to climate change, some places are hit more ferociously than others. Unfortunately for Calarasi in Southern Romania, they face some serious effects of global warming.

The area consistently faces drought which hit an all time low (or high, speaking literally) in 2007 when temperatures soared to 37C way above the usual 29-32C for that time of year.

The water level of the Danube river was dangerously low due to drought, forcing a number of cargo ships to get stuck in the mud. Back in 2007, almost 60% of the areas crops were destroyed or severely damaged by the extent of the extremely high weather.
