4. Pete Sampras – THEN
It’s likely fair to say that Roger Federer has now taken the crown of the greatest male tennis player of all-time, but for a while there we all saw how Pete Sampras managed to get himself to the top of the tree and dominate the sport in a way that nobody else before him had done.
In a career that began in 1988, Sampras would go on to win 64 singles titles, including 14 Grand Slam titles before finally calling time on his playing days in 2002. Of course, the US star went out with a typical bang; defeating longtime rival Andre Agassi to win the 2002 US Open in that final match.
Since his official retirement, Sampras has actually competed in plentiful exhibition matches.
Having been married since 2000, Pete and actress Bridgette Wilson have two teenage sons.
