7. Michael Johnson – THEN

In the history of athletics, few people have more medals and successes than American sprinter Michael Johnson.

Despite a unique running style that many often mocked, Johnson went on to win four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championships golds, not to mention at one point held the world records for both the 200m and 400m.

Since retiring from athletics after the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Johnson has become a hugely successful and popular commentator and pundit.

This Hall of Fame star suffered a stroke in September 2018, although by November of that year he was proudly proclaiming how he was feeling almost back to his normal self.

In his own words, Johnson proclaims his Olympic-level attitude and determination as the key factor in him recovering from his stroke.
