All of the food in the Great Hall scenes is 100% REAL

The number one thing you pray for in a film adapted from a book is that it adheres strictly to the details. Luckily for us die hard fans, director Chris Colombus wanted to be true to to the teeny details; even down to the elaborate feasts. So when our mouth was watering staring at the mass of food, it was actually REAL food. Before that green-eyed monster pops out over not being a cast member, the fact that the food was real did cause some not-so-enjoyable issues… The food spent a long time under the heat of the production lights and spoiled very easily; meat + heat = a VERY unpleasant odour. Gross. After the first movie, they kind of learnt their lesson so for the rest, the food was frozen and moulds were created to make the fake food seem more realistic.
