‘Personally I have an Excel spreadsheet with the name of each family member, the budget for their presents, and ideas of what to get. I keep an eye out for sales (whether in books, booze or clothes) and buy when I see a great deal.’

Ugh as you soon as you hear the word ‘budget’ all the fun goes out the window!

And do we ever stick to it? Not a chance!
But Sara says it can seriously save you the big bundle and it doesn’t have to be boring:
‘You could also consider picking a theme, so for instance you could agree with grown-up family members that everyone gets a book or a DVD that they love’
