49. The part of Uncle Frank was written for Kelsey Grammar

As if that jumper wasn’t heinous enough, Frank was an absolute horror. We would rather be left to fend for ourselves during an attempted burglary than be stuck on a transatlantic flight with this guy.

While the role was filled, low key iconically, by Gerry Bamman the grumpy and irascible uncle Frank was penned for screen actor Kelsey Grammar.

At the time Grammar was playing a regular at Boston bar ‘Cheers’, alongside Ted Danson. In just a couple of years he’d take on his best known role, the eponymous Frasier Crane. So, his career did OK without this part.
