Apparently each plane is struck by lightening in the air at least once a year; understandably airlines tend to keep this a little on the quiet side.

Understandably passengers find this a terrifying prospect, but it’ actually very safe and decidedly No Big Thing, with planes being built to withstand and absorb the current easily.
