9. The Salem Witches!
Salem, Massachusetts is best known for its witch sightings which caused mass hysteria in 1692. People in the town were so panicked that they ended up accusing upwards of 200 people of witchcraft. At least 19 people were hung, while the rest lived the rest of their days behind bars!
