Fantastic Furnishings That Couldn’t Be Swept Under The Patterned Carpet
Colour schemes have always featured in our lives, whether we’re talking clothes, make-up or furnishings. In the 70s, you couldn’t go wrong if you were decorating your home. Include brown, orange, yellow and green, preferably all incorporated in the sitting room, with a bold, patterned wallpaper design, which looked like it was moving if you stared at it long enough. Our parents could teach ’60 Minute Makeover’ a thing or two, as these images prove.
Wall to wall sunshine
It was worth having friends round for tea just so you could show off this amazing wallpaper! To brighten up the room even more (!) you could get matching lamp shades and table cloths.

My mum, like many of her generation, was a stay at home housewife. Ready meals were starting to appear but she prided herself on her home cooking and had stacks of pots and pans, Pyrex dishes and a ton of Tupperware. Keeping up with the colour theme, orange featured heavily.
From oven to table – smells delicious
Bingo was a massive part of mum’s social life. You tended to win gifts, rather than cash and she hit the jackpot when she won a 5 piece Pyrex casserole set. She was over the moon and it meant that she could chuck away her old ones, which still had the burnt remains from previous dinners, that refused to budge.

After a filling dinner of beef casserole (we had this every Wednesday, for years), what better way to relax than to sit down in front of the telly to watch ‘Crossroads’: a corny soap where the scenery had a mind of its own and moved around more than Meg Richardson.
Get out of your chair and turn the tv channel over
After a full day, it was so nice to get into bed and snuggle up in blankets and a nylon, quilted bedspread. Set the teasmade for the morning. Sweet dreams.
