A 1970s Bedroom Brought Back To Life
As the middle child of 3 daughters, I felt I didn’t seem to matter as much as my sisters. Maybe that’s why I was lumbered with the box room, with barely enough space to swing a cat. I had a single bed, single wardrobe and dolls’ size side table and chair. This combination allowed 2 people to walk into my room in single file and link arms, to fit in snuggly.
Nylon, Quilted Bedspread – Totally flammable
It certainly looked the part, with its hanging frill, but if you looked at mine, it was bobbly after so many washes and had a crispy section where it got singed whilst drying on the airer, too close to the Sunbeam gas fire.

They say lighting is the key to creating space, so I was more needy than most in this department. A lamp on my bedside table helped make the room look small instead of tiny.
Lava Lamp – It’s hot
This lamp made me feel really grown up, like a real life teenager. I wanted a clock radio to complete the look and found one at the school jumble sale. Now I had come of age.

Accessories in the bedroom made it as cosy as possible and I used to put my little Bambi ornaments on the window sill, as well as a magazine rack on my hand made rug. I could be an interior designer at this rate.
Hand Made Rug – We got hooked on it
I kept my prized possession under my bed, a Fidelity portable record player. I could listen to The Osmonds without my parents teasing me about my crush on Donny. It had a red case and carrying handle
