TV Sitcoms We Refused To Miss
Television was a massive part of our childhood. Even with 3 channels (until the introduction of Channel 4), we still found plenty to watch. It was about quality, not quantity and with wonderful sitcoms such as ‘Dad’s Army’, ‘Are You Being Served’ and ‘On The Buses’ – Britain was the country that just kept on giving. Even the re-runs are hilarious, decades later.
Bless This House – We worshipped it
I can still hum the theme tune! We loved Sidney James in the Carry On films and seeing him in this popular sitcom, with his hunky screen son, made it a must-watch programme.

Some shows were not politically correct but there was no uproar. We still laughed along and didn’t take any comments to heart. Alf Garnett in ‘Till Death Us Do Part’ was a prime example and 14 million viewers looked forward to his insults! The same could be said for ‘Love Thy Neighbour’, a Friday night treat.
Love Thy Neighbour – No swearing please
I won’t repeat some of the phrases used by each next door neighbour, for fear of having my laptop confiscated by the boys in blue. It was full of racist comments but each episode ended on a happy note and we rejoiced in yet another success by the BBC.

The theme for many shows was the guy doing his best to impress a housemate, the woman he fancied, but it never went to plan. ‘Man About The House’ fell into this category as did some other memorable performances.
Rising Damp – How will Miss Jones react?
Iconic sitcom, with hugely talented cast, Mr Rigsby was like a bad rash around Miss Jones. She couldn’t make up her mind if she wanted him or not. His holey waistcoats didn’t help.
