Playground Crazes That Swept The Nation
Morning break, at 10.30a.m. and we ran out of class, straight into the playground. There was so much on the agenda – marbles, handstands against the wall (with our knickers tucked into our skirts), jacks, swapping Panini stickers…..the list goes on.
Clackers – ouch!
Great fun but be prepared to be battered and bruised. These spherical, hard plastic balls, were lethal if you banged your fingers or wrists ‘mid-clack’.

There was something therapeutic about collecting card sets and swapping them with your friends. Every week, when we got our pocket money, we’d shoot off to the newsagents or sweet shop, to increase our collection.
Top Trumps – Even Mr President played it
Now, you can get all every kind but in the 70s it was basically targeted at the boys.

There were pictures of cars and boats and endless notes about engine capacity and horse power, great if you were into that.
Hoola Hoop – Going round in circles
A great way to tone the waist, in a gym class but happiness in a hoop in the 70s. There was an art to doing it, but once you did, there was no stopping you.
