School Stationery That Was Staying Put
On a Saturday afternoon, or during the school holidays, I loved to go into W.H. Smith and Woolworths to browse the felt pens, coloured pencils and novelty erasers! Sad, I know but it was strangely satisfying. I kept all my Crayola crayons in the same original order, colour coded and sharpened to keep them pointed at all times, ready for serious colouring action. Stationery was fun, but taken seriously in my world.
Flexible Pencils – to drive you round the bend
Imagine having a pencil that could bend in any direction and could be flicked at the annoying kid, sat in front of you. We didn’t have to pretend because this novelty writing instrument allowed us to do just that. It was a welcome distraction from school work and filled the time before break.

Stationery didn’t have to be boring as long as you had an artistic flair about you. Floaty, see-through pens that showed a fish swimming, when you tipped it up, was pretty entertaining. There was a rude version, with a naked woman, which my brother obtained and it made him the most popular boy in the class. Me, being more naive, preferred a cute pencil topper, none more so than a troll.
Troll Pencil Toppers – follow your furry friends
I made it my mission to collect as many of these as I could. Combing the nylon, coloured hair with my fingers and making strange shapes with it, was very relaxing during a stressful hour hearing about useless geographical facts.

During the summer, the stores stocked up on stuff for our return to the new term in September. What better way to show off than to treat yourself to a complete stationery set, displayed beautifully in a patterned zip-around case.
Zip up with an awesome stationery set
I’m not sure why there was a magnifying glass in the set. Maybe it was to see the splinters in your fingers, from the old, rough school desk that we had to sit at.
