The author wasn’t exactly happy
And the film changed quite a few things – including Mary Poppins’ signature look. Apparently she was supposed to have a turned-up nose and black hair – so basically, more like the portrayal of Nanny McPhee.
6. The author hated the film
Isn’t it a terrible shame when this happens? But yes, it’s true. P. L. Travers hated the film, and stated years later:

“I cried when I saw it. I said, ‘Oh, God, what have they done?'”
Apparently, she disliked the animation, the songs, and Andrews’ prettiness. She also disliked the changes made by the studio.
7. The robin mistake
If you know your birds, then you probably noticed this one straightaway. But most people don’t.

The ‘robin’ that appears in the musical number ‘A Spoonful Of Sugar’ is actually an American Robin, and so factually incorrect. Ah, well. I think we can forgive them for that.
8. Speaking of the robin, guess who voiced it?
And by voice, we obviously mean the bird’s whistling. It’s quite fantastic whistling, isn’t it?
