They desperately wanted Andrews
So much so, in fact, that when Andrews informed them that she was pregnant, they decided to hold off filming.
This was after she’d been spotting in a stage show
The higher-ups in the company had seen her performance in Camelot on Broadway, and knew they had to have her.

So as an extra incentive, they even hired her then-husband to design costumes, and offered them a tour around Disneyland (Super keen!).

It’s quite a common occurrence for films to find themselves in desperate straits when it comes to extras.

And this was certainly the case with Mary Poppins. If you cast your mind back to the opening sequence of the film – you know, the one where nannies are queuing up for the job.
Not what we thought…
Well, those nannies are in fact not all women. They’re men, dressed up like older women.
