So when Andrews, as Poppins, begins to pull out item after item from her carpet bag, and Karen – as Jane – stares dumbfounded: it’s her actual reaction!
And the actors weren’t expecting it!
Similarly, when Karen screams after Poppins offers them all the different coloured medicines, that’s also real.

The children also weren’t told who was acting Mr. Dawes Sr. (Dick Van Dyke), and were apparently worried that the old man would fall over. Sometimes tricks really bring out the best results, don’t they?
29. The new film has old characters
Aside from Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Returns is also going to feature Michael and Jane Banks.

They are grown-up versions of the original characters, of course. But apparently Michael lives in the same house, and followed in his father’s footsteps and became a banker.
30. The new film is a musical
Phew – we were all worried for a second there. Turns out the film is definitely going to be an all-out musical.
