“Oh, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious, if you say it loud enough, you’ll always sound precocious! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”
I can guarantee that you just sang that, didn’t you? You definitely at least hummed it. Or imagined Julie Andrews in your mind. The fact is, everyone knows the song – even if they haven’t watched the film. And who hasn’t watched the film?
Beguiling audiences with its fantastic performances, amazing ‘magical’ feats and its mixture of live-action and animation: this Disney classic has delighted audiences for over 50 years.
And Mary Poppins has maintained its popularity throughout those years. In fact, it’s never gone out of print since its very first release on VHS back in 1980. And now it’s set to have its first remake – Mary Poppins Returns – released this December!
Excited? We think so
So whilst you get excited about the seeing the infamous nanny back on our screens once more, why not peruse this list and find out how her film might not exactly be “practically perfect in every way”?
1. Julie Andrews was a little hesitant
She’s a fantastic actor, and we all love her. But apparently, Julie Andrews was a little unsure of the role to start with.

This was because she was hoping that she would be offering the role of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.
But she eventually took the job
Of course, Jack L. Warner offered Audrey Hepburn the job, and the rest is history.

So Andrews took on the role of Mary Poppins, albeit probably feeling a little let-down. She makes the perfect nanny though, hm?
2. Andrews’ pregnancy delayed the filming
Walt Disney were absolutely determined that Andrews should play the now-infamous role of Mary Poppins.
