We’ve all got a celebrity crush, haven’t we? Some of us have several (guilty). And I don’t know about you, but I’m often caught imagining what it would be like if I met them, and they liked me right back! A gal can dream, right?
For most of us it’s just a dream – it’s unlikely that we’ll ever meet our celebrity crushes, much less be swept off in a whirlwind romance. But you still wonder if your crush would ever be open to the possibility, don’t you?
Well, it turns out that celebrities aren’t entirely off-limits (yes, we’ve got you now ladies haven’t we). In fact, there are even some celebrities who have dated – and even married – their own fans.
Sounds like a recipe for disaster right? Well, not always…
There are several you never even knew about…
It appears not all A-listers think they are elite and above us mere mortal peasants…
1. Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were a couple that dominated the media before, during, and even after, their six year relationship.
And whilst many people remember this ‘supercouple’, few recall how it all really kicked off.
She can be forgiven for her crush
In fact, Katie admitted that she fancied the pants off Tom Cruise even before she met him (i.e. she was a fan!)
She even told a Seventeen reporter,
“I used to think that I was going to marry Tom Cruise.”
Who says they’re going to marry someone before they’ve met them?
Well her stunning looks obviously helped her case – still, it’s a bit weird that she already fantasized of marrying Cruise before it happened.
Bye-bye, marriage
It didn’t matter, though. Holmes and Cruise divorced in 2012, and that was the end of that. You know what they say – Be careful what you wish for.
2. Kim Kardashian
Maybe you weren’t aware of this, but Kanye West was supposedly a big fan of Kim’s before the two even met:
“I knew I just wanted her to be my girl for a long time.”
Never mind that he mispronounced her surname when he first asked about her…
3. Chris Martin
They’re divorced now, but Martin’s marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow started on a happy note: a fan meeting a long-time idol.
You’re now imagining that of course it was Martin who fancied Paltrow. I hate to burst the bubble, but that’s just not true.
It wasn’t to be
Although Paltrow is a successful actor in her own right, it was actually she who had the massive crush on Coldplay singer, Martin.
They met at a gig
They actually met backstage at a 2002 Coldplay concert. Wow, go figure. Maybe there’s hope for us all, after all.
4. Julia Roberts
It sounds like a classic fairy tale, eh? – One of the biggest names in acting marries a cameraman she met on set.
And of course the cameraman was Danny Moder, the star actor, Roberts. The film they worked together on was The Mexican (2000). They’ve now been married for 16 years – how romantic.
5. Joe Jonas
We all know Joe as a famous American singer and actor – particularly famous for being a member of the pop rock group: the Jonas Brothers.
And it turns out that he had no qualms enjoying the advantages his fame brought – particularly when it came to his fans. In fact, he has admitted to dating several in the past…
Clearly, Jonas likes this reaction
“Absolutely. I mean, you want the person you’re hopefully in love with to be totally into your music.”
He took a fan on a cinema date
“I remember I invited a fan to a movie, and we just made out the entire time. I don’t even remember what the movie was about. I must have been 16 or so.”
6. John Travolta
Alright, alright… so Kelly Preston is actually quite famous now – and she’s actually been married to Travolta since 1991.
But she was actually his biggest fan even before they met. In fact, she once recalled how she saw the Grease film poster and said:
“I’m going to marry that man.”
Cute
Never mind the fact that she actually ended up marrying actor Kevin Gage before Travolta…
She even stated that she always had a crush of Travolta despite marrying Gage first. Love has no boundaries, hmm?
7. Anne Hathaway
Not many people know that Anne met her husband through mutual friends back in 2008.
They met the old-fashioned way
The man in question was actually a fan – Adam Shulman. Naturally, the two fell in love. They got married in 2012, and have one child together. How cute.
8. Fergie
Although it didn’t turn out for the best in the end, Fergie’s actually married a fan of hers – Josh Duhamel.
They had worked together during a cameo appearance made by her in Duhamel’s show, Las Vegas.
They divorced recently
They were married in 2009, and had one child, before they announced their split last year.
Ah well, apparently they’re much happier now that they’ve split. And their son always comes first, of course.
9. Matt Damon
This has to be one of the most adorable stories ever. Damon apparently met his now-wife, Luciana Barroso, whilst she was working as a bartender.
I’ll meet you at the bar…
Apparently, Damon was dragged to a bar when he decided to do the comedic film Stuck On You in 2002.
The name’s Damon… Matt Damon
“I literally saw her across a crowded room, literally. Eight years and four kids later, that’s my life.
I don’t know how else our paths would’ve crossed if that didn’t happen. If all those things didn’t happen.”
We’re betting that you’re suddenly inspired to get to work now in case your dream celebrity walks in? Well, you’re not the only one.
10. Patrick Dempsey
This is the story of how a girl’s dream came true. Apparently, Dempsey booked a hair appointment with his now-wife, Jillian Fink.
She – of course – knew who he was, but couldn’t believe it was actually him she was seeing to until he walked through the doors.
Snip snip
They flirted together from the moment Dempsey sat down in the hairdresser’s chair, and decided to get married in 1999.
They’re still together
They’ve since faced a few hiccups (including Fink filing for a divorce – eek! Trouble in paradise!), but have actually remained together.
11. Jake T. Austin
If you can’t quite remember the name, he actually rose to fame for his appearance in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place.
Sound familiar? Hey – maybe you’re a fan! Well, turns out that Austin is very open to dating fans.
He’s dating a fan RIGHT NOW
In fact, he’s dating one right now! Her name is Danielle Caesar and she actually grabbed his attention after tweeting him constantly for five years.
At first, it sounds a bit like she was a stalker, but it turns out that the pair met for real at an autograph signing in 2011 and then announced their relationship in 2015.
There’s hope for us all!
Austin has been very open about his new girlfriend, happily posting pictures of the two on social media.
Just having fun
And to any bitter people out there, he stated:
“We’re young and having fun just getting to know each other. It doesn’t matter how you meet someone — on set, in a coffee shop, at school or in the business. Sometimes you connect with people at the right moment and you just click.”
Well, she’s living the dream!
12. Conan O’Brien
O’Brien met his wife – Liza – when taping his show Late Night With Conan O’Brien in 2000.
He told Piers Morgan that he saw her and thought that she was stunningly beautiful:
“Somewhere, in the vault at NBC, there’s footage of me literally falling for my wife on camera.”
How romantic.
13. Jesse James
You probably recall the famous scandal surrounding Jesse James and ex-wife Sandra Bullock. He cheated – multiple times.
Ugh. Anyway, Bullock first met him when she took his godson – a fan at the time – to see Monster Garage.
Crazy cars
James was the host of the show that aired on the Discovery Channel, where various ‘monster machines’ were constructed.
He was a serial cheater
It all sounds rather nice when you tell the story – it’s just a shame that James turned out to be a monster himself in the end.
14. Kevin Jonas
Well, we’ve talked Joe Jonas. Now let’s talk Kevin Jonas. They sure love their fans, eh?
Danielle Deleasa – Jonas’ wife – was a hairdresser when he met her, but was he was smitten.
Pretty much
Apparently he cyber-stalked her after they first met, to the point where he even checked what plane she was flying home on:
“That might have been a little overboard, but I just went for it.”
Well yes, Jonas, that is a little overboard. It sure worked though. The couple married in 2009 and now have a few children together.
15. Nicolas Cage
You might be able to recall Cage’s ex-wife – Alice Kim – who was just nineteen years old when they met.
She was a fan
She was a working as a waitress at the time (and apparently asked Cage for an autograph!).
Her family didn’t approve
Turns out they both hit it off straightaway, and married just a few months later. The rest of the world – and Kim’s family in particular – were less than pleased:
“When my mother-in-law came to the house for the first time, before even hello or nice to meet you, all I got was, ‘She’s too young!’ And so I knew this was going to be an uphill battle.”
They’re separated now anyway – but what do you think?
16. Ringo Starr
Starr met his first wife – Maureen Starkey Tigrett – when she was working as a hairdresser in Liverpool.
When she was just another screaming fan, she met the Beatles’ star at The Cavern Club, where they were playing.
They broke up
Starr returned her feelings, and the two were married in 1965 after she discovered that she was pregnant.
Sadly, she’s no longer with us
When the Beatles broke up, so too did Starr’s marriage. They divorced and Tigrett tragically passed away in 1994.
17. Taraji P. Henson
This well-known American actress has hinted that she once dated a fan, but not with any success:
“I don’t want an actor. I want a life partner. A real one. I had a guy, but cut to the chase. He was starstruck. They fall for the lady on-screen.”
18. Steve Harvey
The story of Steve Harvey and the way he met his current wife could in fact be a rumour – but either way it seems to good not to believe in!
Apparently they met at one of his shows. She was in the audience, and when he saw her he said:
“I don’t know who you are but I’m going to marry you.”
Creepy or cute?
They didn’t actually get together until later, after Harvey had already been married and divorced.
True love
But they currently live together, with their children from previous marriages. Proof that true love always wins out!
19. Matthew Lewis
C’mon, everybody loves an underdog – most especially if they’re called Neville Longbottom. And Lewis, the face behind the beloved Harry Potter character, loves his fans too.
In fact, he loved fan Angela Jones so much that they’re now married. They met each other when Jones was working as an event planner in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Orlando.
20. The Hanson brothers
Back in the ’90s, the Hanson brothers were true heartthrobs. And they put on quite a few concerts for their fans to enjoy.
Three of their fans particularly enjoyed their concerts – because the Hanson brothers met them there and asked them out!
Dreams do come true
Wowza. All three – it can’t be! But yes, it’s true. In an interview for Entertainment Weekly, Zac Hanson revealed:
Unbelievable, really
“We met all our wives at [Hanson] concerts, believe it or no.”
Reckon you’ll soon be planning your next concert visit, eh?
21. Harry Styles
Okay, okay, so the former One Direction singer hasn’t exactly dated a fan, but he’s said in the past that he’s open to the idea:
“I would date a fan. I think if you like someone, then you like them anyway, whether they’re a fan or not. I don’t think that would change how you felt. If they were a fan of the group, I think if anything that’d be a bonus.”
22. Billie Joe Armstrong
Armstrong is famous for being a member of the punk rock band we all loved back in the day: Green Day.
And he actually met his wife – Adrienne Nesser – at an early concert in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
We all know them
The two married in 1994, before Adrienne quickly discovered that she was pregnant with their son, Joseph.
Really need to go to a concert soon…
It’s funny how many celebrity singers seem to have dated people attending their concerts? Maybe it’s not a lost cause after all…
23. Luke Hemmings
Here’s another case of a person who hasn’t dated a fan, but is definitely open to the idea.
You may or may not have heard of him. Hemmings is the guitarist for Australian rock band, 5 Seconds Of Summer.
They look like a happy bunch
In an interview with the American teen magazine, Seventeen, Hemmings is reported to have said:
“Yes I’d date a fan. People talk about fans like they’re mystical creatures, but they’re just normal people.”
24. Kelsey Grammer
We all know him from either Frasier or Cheers (or both, let’s be honest!). He’s currently married to Kayte Walsh – his fourth wife (wow).
He married a flight attendant
Walsh was just a flight attendant when Grammer met her and they instantly hit it off.
This was how it went, right?
Grammer told Jimmy Kimmel on his live show:
“We actually met in the air on a plane to England. It was very romantic, she was working on the plane.
We went out for coffee several days later and had this magical night in the snow in London around Christmas time. It was two years ago.”
25. Tobey Maguire
Maguire, famous for his portrayal of the web-shooting, crime-fighting superhero – Spiderman, is married to Jennifer Meyer.
She met him after she asked to be introduced to him on the set of Seabiscuit. If that isn’t typical fan behavior for you, then I don’t know what is.
26. Jerry Seinfeld
Famous for playing himself in the sitcom, Seinfeld, he met his wife Jessica Sklar when she just a public relations executive.
She was a fan, supposedly
She was apparently a big Seinfeld fan at the time and the two soon started dating. They were married in 1999.
27. Brad Pitt
Okay, okay, so you can’t really call Jennifer Aniston just a fan, given her own fame these days.
But at the time Brad Pitt made a cameo appearance on the popular sitcom, Friends, Aniston was a big fan.
I mean, who wouldn’t amiright?
Everyone knows how the story goes. They married in 2000, in a secret ceremony at Malibu.
But in 2005, the fairy-tale ended when they announced that they were separating. And we all know the alleged reason behind it all – Angelina Jolie. We’re betting you took a side in this particular love triangle, hm?
28. Jessica Alba
Alba met her husband, Cash Warren, on the set of the big blockbuster film, Fantastic Four.
Instant attraction
As soon as they got talking, Alba felt an instant attraction. Warren was only a production assistant – how romantic.
29. Adam Sandler
He’s famous for a lot of roles, as you probably well know. And he met his future wife on the set of Big Daddy.
She had been hired in the role of a waitress serving his character a beer. They were married in 2003, and have three children together.
30. Lee Ryan
This is a particularly infamous case where dating a fan went horribly wrong. Lee is a former Blue singer and Eastenders actor.
He met Samantha Millar – a hairdresser and mega fan of his – when she sent him some sexy pictures via MySpace.
Oooh, risque…
They actually got engaged and were together for a further two years, before things turned sour.
They almost went to court
Lee was accused of assault by Millar and things soon went pear-shaped. The charges were dropped when they split.
31. Elvis Presley
The ultra-famous singer met Priscilla Wagner – who was just fourteen at the time – at a party in Germany.
It’s not exactly clear whether Priscilla was a fan, but she’d paid the 25 cent admittance fee for the Elvis fan club, so we assume as much.
She paid to enter a fan club (ergo, she was a fan)
In any case, they were soon married. Their relationship lasted a whole thirteen years, before Priscilla had an affair with a karate instructor.
The two amicably divorced. Still, it’s a shame. It sounded as if Presley was pretty starstruck the first time he met her.
32. Mariah Carey
Carey is renown for her singing ability (mostly for supplying us with the endless chorus of “all I want for Christmas is you!” every winter)
A classic song
Nick Cannon, the American TV presenter, grew up thinking that all he wanted was Carey.
It didn’t work out as planned
And he actually got his wish when he met the singer on the video shoot for Carey’s Bye Bye music video.
They got married, yes, but it all ended in 2006 when Carey filed for a divorce.
33. Rebecca Adlington
Famous for her competitive swimming and multiple Olympic gold medal wins, Adlington is idolised by many.
This included her ex-boyfriend, Harry Needs, whose idolisation was apparently just too much for the relationship to bear.
34. Ruben Studdard
Studdard became famous after he won the second season of American Idol. He is known for his R&B, pop and gospel singing.
They met in a supermarket
He met Surata Zuri during his CD signing in 2006 at Wal-Mart. The two were married in 2008, but divorced in 2018.
35. Amber Rose
Wiz Khalifa was a big fan of hers even before they got married. When asked in an interview who in the world he’d be with if he could choose, Khalifa answered, ‘Amber Rose’.
After seeing the interview, Rose tweeted him and the two got chatting. They were married for a little while, but Rose filed for a divorce in 2014. Those sweet words didn’t last for long then…
36. Danny Bonaduce
Bonaduce met his wife, Amy Railsback, when she recognized him in Starbucks and said she liked his show, Breaking Bonaduce.
He took an immediate shine to her, and they married in 2010. Railsback is now Bonaduce’s full-time manager.
A good or a bad thing? You decide
Well there we have it! So many cases of celebrities dating – and marrying – fans. For some it worked and went very well – for others, less so. What do you think? Would it be a good idea for you to date your biggest celebrity crush?
