8. Open Water

Everyone loves a swim in the Caribbean, but maybe not if there are sharks around!

Was that a shark?

Scuba-diving is a fun activity to take in the true beauty of the ocean. That is, until your group sail away leaving you alone in the middle of the sea with sharks circling around…

As a fictional film, this would make you think twice about going scuba-diving. But the fact it was based on real events is enough to make you stay on land forever!

The real couple

The film is based on the story of Tom and Eileen Lonergan, who were found to be missing 2 days after their group came back from scuba-diving.

Their bodies were never found, but some of their kit was found washed up miles away from where they were left.

What happened to them?

We don’t know if they were eaten by sharks (probably not) or drowned (more likely), so the events of the film with the sharks and jellyfish are all made up.

Just being left alone in the ocean is terrifying enough for me!
