12. The Strangers
Ah the classic relaxing weekend retreat that turns out to be anything but relaxing! This kind of horror story has been told many times, but it makes it no less terrifying.
Don’t answer the door!
Alone in a remote location, any contact with the outside world gone and 3 people with masks trying to kill you.

Standard horror tale, but what makes this one slightly more unnerving is the real life tale behind it.
Because you were home…
Bryan Bertino, the writer-director, was inspired by the real life Tate Murders in 1969 and Keddie Cabin Murders in 1981.

He was also inspired by his own experience as a child.
When he and his sister were home alone, some people knocked on the door, asking for someone else. They later found out these people were looking for empty houses to then break into.
Worst nightmare
These kind of films, and the stories behind them, really make you dread being home alone!
