3. R + L = J
Most avid fans were familiar with this theory long before it came to fruition on the show.
Rhaegar and Lyanna
Robert’s Rebellion (an event that took place before the events of the TV show) sparked after Rhaegar Targaryen decided to “kidnap” Lyanna Stark – Robert’s betrothed at the time.

Viewers had their own suspicions concerning the reality behind the rebellion – including that Rhaegar and Lyanna had conceived a child.
Ned sacrificed his own honour to save Jon
This turned out to be true, the child being none other than Jon Snow – passed off for many years as Ned’s illegitimate child.

The flashback – viewed through a vision seen by Bran – was enough to set viewers screeching in delight.
Who doesn’t get chills?
Never mind that it was later revealed that Rhaegar and Lyanna actually got married in secret – making Jon the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. It’s funny how things turn out, huh?
