9. Daenerys ‘births’ her dragons
We all knew from the get-go that the fossilised dragon eggs given to Daenerys by Illyrio, on her wedding day in series 1, were special.

However, it wasn’t until the climax of series 1 that we came to know just how special she, and the eggs, were.
Fire can’t kill a dragon
Khal Drogo – Daenerys’ late husband – died as a result of a witch’s black magic. Daenerys arranged to have his body cremated – with the witch strapped to the pyre.

But it swiftly became evident that Daenerys also intended to burn both herself and the eggs alongside them…
Blood of my blood
When the smoke cleared the next morning, Jorah and the remaining Dothraki were amazed to discover an alive – and very much unhurt – Daenerys, clutching three newborn dragons to her breast. As the music reached a crescendo, I remember thinking that Thrones was definitely one of a kind.
