17. Shireen’s death
Shireen Baratheon wasn’t a major character, but she’s certainly memorable for her good heart. You might even recall the time she tried to help Ser Davos learn to read.
An innocent, young girl
She was the only surviving child of Stannis and Selyse Baratheon – her three older brothers were born stillborn.

You would have thought that such a fact would have made her more precious to her mother and father. Yet this wasn’t the case.
The realisation hitting home
Her mother resented her because she was sickly (she caught Greyscale as an infant). But Stannis loved her, as did Davos Seaworth – Stannis’ most trusted advisor.

Devastatingly, the Red Priestess convinced Stannis and Selyse to burn Shireen at the stake when the Baratheon army was in trouble.
Unbearable to watch
This moment was definitely one of pure horror, with Shireen realizing what was happening too late. Her cries persuaded even her hateful mother to run to help – to no avail. I think this moment really instilled hatred in us all against Stannis. Unforgivable.
