It’s always been haunted
It can be found in the village of Borley, and was supposedly haunted from the time it was first built.
The site of the house today
The first activity reported was in 1863. A few instances that have occurred within and nearby include: footsteps, the ghost of a nun at twilight, a phantom coach steered by headless coachmen, the sounds of servant bells and even people being dragged out of bed and struck. An exorcism was even attempted – but to no avail.

The house is no longer there – it was damaged in a fire in 1939. But the site is supposedly still haunted. Definitely not somewhere you want to be caught during the middle of the night…
