The filmmakers settled on Luke and Helga for the movie, in the name of clarity.

Apart from these additions and the controversial change of ending, the film is generally relatively faithful to Dahl’s original.

But, as well as the fairly uncontentious decision to add names for the main characters, they also added one significant character.

27. Jane Horrocks is the good witch

Mrs Susan Irvine dabbles in the darks arts, is turned into a mouse, and is eventually redeemed and restored to her human form. She’s played by Jane Horrocks, a British actress famed for her roles in ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ and ‘Little Voice’.
