10. Wearing a wig
Mary’s hair was lovely and long in The Secret Garden, but it was actually just a wig!

Kate Maberly had short hair at the time of filming, which would not have been the typical style of an Edwardian girl!
11. Seeing Double
If you thought that Mrs Lennox (Mary’s mum) and Lilias Craven (Colin’s mum) looked similar, even for sisters, then you’d be correct!

They were in fact played by the same actress, Irène Jacob. I suppose they appeared so briefly in the film the producers thought they would cut down on expenditure!
12. Not really 10
Colin and Mary were both supposed to be 10 years old. However, Heydon Prowse (Colin) was nearly 13 during filming!
