3. Viggo broke his toes
There were a few injuries on set during the continuous filming of the three films.
Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli searched for the hobbits
One of those injuries happened during a particularly memorable shot – when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli believe that they’ve failed the hobbits, Merry and Pippin.

During the scene, the three characters come upon a mound of smoldering Orc bodies. When Gimli discovers a hobbit belt within, they naturally believe that Merry and Pippin have perished.
Aragorn lets out a terrible cry
Aragorn vents his frustration by lashing out at a nearby Orc helmet, kicking it hard in the direction of the camera.

He then emits a howl of grief, collapsing to the ground. But during that very shot that appears in the film, Viggo actually broke two of his toes kicking the helmet.
Turned out he’d broken his toes!
The howl of grief is all real. And despite the fact that Viggo was clearly in intense pain, he soldiered on and didn’t tell anyone what had happened. The film kept rolling, with Viggo channeling the injury into his performance. What a trooper!
