2. Viggo Mortensen was hired late
Viggo Mortensen was famously cast as Aragorn – the lone ranger and destined king of Gondor.

But he wasn’t always Aragorn. Stuart Townsend was originally cast in the role. He’d actually met with Jackson, and had even traveled to the set.

However, Director Peter Jackson quickly decided that Townsend wasn’t quite right for the character of Aragorn.
Let’s be honest, we prefer Viggo
He wanted someone older to play the part. Within the first few days, Viggo was brought in.

At the time, Viggo had never actually met Peter Jackson. It really was blind luck that he turned out to be a perfect Aragorn.
Exceptionally well-cast
Considering how we simply can’t imagine anyone else as Aragorn, isn’t it weird that Viggo was cast seemingly by chance?
