Speaking of Omaha Beach… We all remember the moment when the Germans start to surrender, right?
It was clear that they’d lost
It quickly becomes apparent that the American troops are not in the forgiving mood. Not at all.

Most of the Germans on the beach, who try to surrender, are shot without mercy.
Those who had survived Omaha Beach weren’t feeling merciful
A particularly memorable moment occurs when two ‘German’ soldiers approach the Americans with their hands up.

They appear to beg in German before they’re shot. The men who shot them jeer over their corpses, mocking the fact that they couldn’t understand what they were saying…
“I am Czech!”
But what’s actually really heart-breaking is that the two soldiers weren’t German at all. They actually don’t even speak in German. What they do say is, “Please don’t shoot me, I am not German, I am Czech, I didn’t kill anyone, I am Czech!” Sadly, so many Czech and Polish citizens were drafted to fight on the front-lines for the Germans when their countries were invaded. How horrifying is that?
