20. A part of an earlier script
The German who the unit encounters just after their medic, Wade, dies is commonly referred to with the alias ‘Steamboat Willie’.
Steamboat Willie confronted by Upham
The unit lets him go only to see him come back later alongside the German forces attacking Ramelle.

But in an earlier version of the script, Miller’s unit didn’t let Steamboat Willie go right away.
They kept the German soldier with them
In fact, the unit were originally supposed to camp out in a foxhole for the evening. German soldiers were then scripted to come and camp next to them.

When a member of the German unit was to come over to talk, Miller’s group supposedly forced Steamboat Willie (at gunpoint) to cover for them.
An alternate script
Apparently, the two units were even supposed to exchange goods. It sounds like an interesting take – who knows why it was cut?
