Initially, director Spielberg did not want a well-known actor playing the missing Private James Francis Ryan.

That’s right – he was determined to find an absolute unknown with an “All-American” look.

But Damon quickly became famous for Good Will Hunting
Little did he know that before the film was released, Matt Damon would win an Oscar for his performance in Good Will Hunting.

He was still a good Ryan
