The film opens – and closes – with an old Ryan walking through the war graves and coming upon Captain Miller’s.

It probably comes as no surprise that the person playing the old Ryan is not Damon.

In fact, the character was played by Harrison Young, who was 68 years old at the time of filming.

But another interesting tidbit is that Young was actually only 14 years old during the Normandy invasion.
