27. Tripping Out
Re-watching Jumanji now, we are probably filled with embarrassment at the thought of ever thinking the animals were real.
What were we thinking?
As technology has improved drastically over the years, so too has the effect of CGI.

Now we don’t want to be too hard on Jumanji because it did push the boundaries of special effects at the time.
Stampede scene…
But seriously, how did any of us ever fall for the fake animals? Had any of us ever seen a monkey?

Of course CGI was still relatively new at the time, so all can be forgiven but it does beg the question: what did Robin Williams think of working with these effects?
There were animals EVERYWHERE
In an interview he said that acting alongside CGI was kind of like “taking LSD”, as you had to “hallucinate everything”.
Now, we don’t know much about the effects of LSD but it sounds like the whole movie was an acid trip!
