At this time there were around 300 accused witches who were imprisoned and brutally tortured in the Tolbooth and at Edinburgh Castle prior to their execution at Castlehill.
Lady Janet Douglas
One woman who was accused of witchcraft and conspiring to kill King James V, was Lady Janet Douglas of Glamis.

Her servants were tortured into a forced confession of her guilt which had her sentenced to death.
A gruesome end…
Lady Janet met her gruesome end in 1537 when she was burnt alive at the stake. Tragically, her young son was forced to watch.
