He would use the location to bring his troops together, before setting off to raid nearby settlements that were sympathetic to the ruthless king.

Unfortunately, whilst many of his soldiers returned to the inn to recover from their battle injuries, others returned to die.

Some medieval kings were even known to spend the night at the Skirrid Inn, whilst prisoners were left alone to rot in their cells.
