8. Edward Mordrake was a fictional character before Freak Show

One of the weirdest characters ever seen on American Horror Story, Edward Mordrake, was in fact a fictional character invented in 1895.

Written up by science fiction writer Charles Lotin Hildreth, Mordrake had a face on the back of his head, kind of like Voldemort in The Philosopher’s Stone. Apparently the face couldn’t eat or speak, but would laugh and sneer while Mordrake was crying.

Played by Wes Bentley in the aptly titled season Freak Show, the tale of Mordrake says that his ‘demon twin’ would often whisper to him in the night, and it was this constant rambling that drove Mordrake to suicide at the age of 23.

Interestingly, there has been numerous theories that Mordrake was in fact a real person, and even an heir to the English aristocracy.

However, the lack of evidence presented on this medical marvel suggests that he was probably fictional and I think we can all sleep easier at night knowing this.

I hope to god this isn’t real!

Despite the theories surrounding Edward Mordrake’s past, this two-headed monstrosity was one of the craziest concepts to be seen in definitely the freakiest season of A.H.S.
