11. Naomi Grossman had a miraculous makeover for the role of Pepper
Season’s 2 and 4 feature murderous microcephalic female character ‘Pepper’, played by actress Naomi Grossman who endured a lot of transformation to perfect this role.

Firstly she had to shave her head. All of it. The character of Pepper was first seen in Asylum, and apparently Murphy and the casting team thought a shaved head would add to the unusual nature of the character. And they were right.

Next she had to undergo a series of makeup tests which took over three hours each! Instead of the classic makeup touch-up before going on set, Grossman had freckles and veins meticulously placed all over her face.

Finally, the prosthetics were added to complete the quirky look. It may sound like a lot, but the work that goes into creating the character makes a huge difference, and even got the makeup crew Emmy nominated!

Grossman spilled the beans on what the prosthetics contained:
“They consist of a forehead complete with punched-in eyebrows, a nose, ears, and even a bumpy little spine-piece for my back.”

Whatever they were doing, it’s fair to say that the transformation from Naomi Grossman the actress, to Pepper the lunatic, is insane.
