He was the nice guy who grew up with the Duke boys before becoming Deputy Sheriff.
He had a big heart!
Especially when it comes to the Duke boys because he knew so much about them.

This causes a lot of emotional conflict for him as he was having to pursue his friends all of the time.
He also had a winning smile!
He was just too nice to be a part of the corrupt system that he was now involved in.

So, he had to constantly struggle between his job and his commitment to his friends, the Duke boys.
It wasn’t always easy for him!
He preferred to be an upstanding man of the law but that was becoming increasingly difficult with Boss Hogg pulling his strings.
