Before Victoria Secrets sprays became popular, we had Hollister ones. Before we had money to go to the hair dressers to colour our hair, we had those crap home highlighting kits and before we learnt how to do our makeup, we used the cheapest and crappiest makeup we could get our hands on.

Growing up in the 00s was a good time because we just missed out on the generation where technology takes over everything. Yes we had consoles and phones that we thought were extremely advanced at the time, but we also made sure we had real life experiences with our friends and created so many memories that we will always remember (or try to forget)!

Most of all, the noughties was the time that we started our rebellion towards our parents. Nothing too extreme, but we liked to keep them on their toes.

With that in mind, lets see how many of these things you had when you were growing up?

1. Hollister sprays.

Like Victoria Secrets sprays but not as good & just as expensive. Hollister was one of them brands that randomly became popular all of a sudden and everyone started to buy stuff from there.

Whether you were a boy or a girl, there were tons of things to choose from. Joggers, underwear, hooded jumpers and these beach sprays that made everyone smell the same.

2. The gold doll necklace.

I challenge you to find a better necklace than this. This famous necklace was the perfect mix between tacky and fashionable but all the popular girls seemed to have one.

If you didn’t have this doll version then you probably had the necklace with a joyful clown on it.

3. White tipped nails.

Maybe with a little diamanté on the the third finger nail just to make your manicure look that bit snazzier. These were the fake nails that girls could just get away with in school.

They weren’t too outrageous so the teachers never really said anything. Unless you decided to paint them a bright colour then you would have been asked to remove them as soon as you got to school.

4. Shit streaky highlights.

Hands up who bought one of those home highlighting kits & tried to do it themselves? Probably one of the worst decisions of your life? Well, I tried it & I looked like I had bird shit all over my hair. NOT a good look!

But it didn’t really matter because the majority of the girls, even some boys, in my school decided to go for the streaks of colour. I wouldn’t even say it was highlights, they were just big blocked streaks.

5. Gold hooped earrings with your name in them.

#chavalert but they were BLOODY AMAZING. If these earring were a little bit too extra for you then you definitely would have owned a pair of hooped earrings.

Everyone used to joke around and say ‘bigger the hoop bigger the hoe’ but that didn’t really offend anyone. Hooped earrings seem to have come back now with a lot of people wearing them!

6. Paul’s Boutique bag.

Paul’s Boutique bags were so popular for a while, some of them were nice, some weren’t so nice and looking back, I’m pretty glad I never got one. But back in the day, these were as popular as the Kardashians are today!

I’m not too sure why though because these bags are actually awful! We weren’t saying that ten years ago though were we?

7. A Jane Norman bag.

Or Kookai or a Morgan one. Unfortunately, my mum wouldn’t let me have a bag with one strap because she was scared I’d hurt my back carrying too many books so while most of the girls had nice, “cool” bags, I had to prance about with a giant boys bag like a right gimp.

8. A pink Motorola Razr phone with crystals on the front.

Who got a Pink Motorola Razr when they were younger? Some people used to cover their phones in tacky crystals to make them look “nicer”. There were so many different versions of this phone so everyone tried to make sure they had their own unique one.

If you didn’t have a Motorola Razr, then you would have been given a Sony Ericsson Walkman. Playing songs off your phone full blast on the park. These were the best times!

9. A Baby G watch.

Who had one of these? They were so big but everyone wanted one at one point. This was another one of those products that everyone wanted a different colour of so that they weren’t copying the rest of the crowd. I got a white one which ended up breaking after about a week of me having it because I ended up getting in the bath with it because I was told they were waterproof.

10. Lancôme Juicy Tubes.

The worlds stickiest lipglosses that came in all sorts of random colours and tasted absolutely delicious. I’m pretty sure I only bought these because of how they tasted because they were an absolute pain in the arse if there was any sort of wind, your hair would literally be stuck to your lips.

11. A tattoo if you were a real rebel.

Now, if you were a true rebel, you probably got a tattoo when you were younger that you hid from your mum for about 7 years until you were old enough to run away from her. Or you had parents that didn’t care about tattoo’s and let you get one in year 10.

12. A Juicy Couture tracksuit.

If your parents couldn’t afford a Juicy Couture one, you’d get a snide one from Primark. Obviously not as good but beggars can’t be choosers. I’d pair my bright pink Primark trackies with a pair of mini Ugg boots & I’d genuinely think I looked the dog’s bollocks.

13. An Abercrombie & Fitch bag.

It was one of those bags you’d have to put your gym stuff in. Forget about letting your mum give you a Tesco bag, you’d have got absolutely terrored and if anyone dared come into school with an Aldi bag, that was the end of them. Nowadays, people can’t get enough of the shop.

14. Something from Hollister.

Remember when you used to go into a Hollister shop on Saturday even though you couldn’t afford anything in there? You needed VERY good eyesight to manoeuvre around that shop too because it was so dark, you were basically walking around Hogwarts.

15. Ugg boots – obvs.

Again, most people had them, but did you wear them with your Juicy Couture tracksuit? If you didn’t have Uggs then you probably used to wear what we used to call ‘Fuggs’ (Fake-Uggs) which resulted in you walking lopsided.

16. Max Factor pan stick makeup.

A perfectly good makeup brand & the pan stick foundation would have looked good on most people, just not 14-year-olds who don’t know how to apply makeup. You’d end up looking like someone had smeared concrete across your face if you put too much on.

17. Dream matte mousse foundation.

Dream matte mousse was that make up that pretty much every single girl owned in school and if you didn’t have it, you’d end up using your friends which was always the wrong colour for you.

18. GHD’s.

The amount of burn marks I have on my hands and neck from the years of straightening abuse I put myself through and I bet most of us left our straighteners on all day at least once when we went to school.
