The thing I remember most about mom’s kitchen was that we didn’t have a freezer when I was very young. There was a small cool box at the back of the fridge which was of little use.
When we did eventually get a freezer, it was stacked with frozen pizzas and new convenience frozen meals. Have a tour around our vintage kitchen and spot any familiar items your family had in there.
1 Drinking Glasses
My grandparents used to have these on display in their kitchen cabinet.
2 Dinner Set
The perfect dinner sets for a family with kids – Pyrex made them almost unbreakable! Looking at this picture takes me right back to growing up in the 1970s. The pattern, the colours, everything about this photo screams 70s! Did you have this dinner set?
3 Tupperware
OMG – this takes me back, who remembers having cupboard full of Tupperware?
Tupperware parties became part of mom’s social life back then…I don’t really understand what the obsession was, do you?
4 Twin Tub Washing Machine
It was much harder work to do the washing back then.
Do you remember how much these washing machines used to shake and jump about? They would make so much noise you could hear them from upstairs!
5 Ice Cube Tray
These metal ice cube trays were very 70s.
They always came in handy in the summer when you would be running in and out of the house, playing in the back yard in our blow up swimming pools.
6 Step Chair
We had the same one, but in red. Did your mom have one of these in the kitchen? We had a few of them growing up, I’ve lost count of the amount we broke through the years!
7 Coffee Percolator
This got a lot of use in our house, I mean, who doesn’t love coffee?
My mom would make a huge pot first thing in the morning before she took us all to school. I wouldn’t go a day without seeing this thing being used!
8 Storage Containers
Toadstools were everywhere! They were so cute! Who remembers these? I think pretty much every household in my neighbourhood had these in their kitchen. Does anyone still have these? My grandma kept them for so many years!
9 Defrosting The Freezer
A horrible job that had to be done every so often. My sister used to break off the ice and put it down my back! Oh the memories! I used to hate it when my mom would shout us to come down to help her defrost the freezer. What a god awful job that was!
10 Jiffy Pop Popcorn
I remember burning the pan when I made this popcorn and mom went mad!
Who else used to love doing this on a Saturday before watching TV with your family with a dinner kit?
11 Quik
It had to be strawberry for me…my mom would get an extra big tub so we wouldn’t all be fighting over the last bit of it when it was running out! I’m not going to lie, I still buy this stuff even now after all these years, every flavour is amazingggggg!
12 Crock-Pot
Our’s was orange with yellow flowers around the bottom of it. I can still see it clearly to this day, it was the perfect kitchen essential for those cold winter months! This picture screams 70s, everything about it was so 70s, some people still have theirs & still use it to this day!
13 Casserole Dishes
If you didn’t soak them straight away after use, you really had to scrub hard to get them clean – I know because that was part of my chores!
14 Fruit Pie
Who loved these? I always had a pack of these in my Green Hornet lunchbox!
They had a sugar glazing on the top of them that made them so much more irresistable! They were the perfect lunchtime snack for school.
15 Hawaiian Punch
This brings back great memories of growing up in the 70s & 80s! Do you remember the Hawaiian Punch commercials? They were always so lively & fun! Did you love Hawaiian Punch when you were younger?
16 Ice Cream Maker
Who had one of these? I remember when we used to have birthday parties out of the street with all of the neighbours kids & we used to make everyone ice cream for the parties. The ice cream maker really did make the best ice cream in the world there was no contest with that!
17 Fried Bologna Sandwiches
They were the best things ever! Fried bologna sandwiches on a Sunday morning..Who remembers having these at their grandparents? My grandma would buy a big load each week with a fresh roll of bread to make fried bologna sandwiches for everyone who came round.
18 Ding Dongs
They tasted so much better when I was a kid! They changed the taste of them (they’re probably not full with as much crap I suppose). Remember when you could get 12 for 79cents? You couldn’t even buy 2 for a dollar nowadays!
19 Bazooka bubblegum
They really were the best!! You could blow the BIGGEST bubbles with this stuff. I used to take a load of them to school with me & me & my friends would have competitions to see who could blow the biggest bubbles.
20 Beanbag ashtray
Our parents had these when we were younger! How many of you remember these horrible looking thing? When I look back at some of the things my parents had in their homes, it makes me cringe. I mean just look at that beanbag ashtray for crying out loud!
21 Candy dish
We all had these dotted around the house! My grandma still has hers full of candy, like Hershey’s for when her great grandkids come around to visit her every week.
22 Atomic balls
Who remembers when they were a penny each? They remind me so much of middle school, everyone would have a little bag full of them & they were so spicy hot that most of us couldn’t handle it, we would end up in the bathroom at school with our eyes streaming.
23 Icepops
These things remind me of being a kid again…we used to fill ours up again after we finished with water and squirt them in each others faces. Pretty gross when I think about it now! Eurgh! But they were the good old days, I used to love the cola flavoured ice pops!
24 Lunchbox
We all had colorful, bright lunchboxes! Which one did you have? I can smell the fried bologna sandwich looking at this image – we all had lunchboxes like these until we brown bagged it to school.
25 This chair
My gran had one of these in her kitchen! We had a huge ugly green one that always used to break but my mom would refuse to throw it out in the garbage, we just kept it in the corner of our kitchen for years and years until one day it was passed down to someone else in the family.
26 Cinnamon and Sugar on Toast
The joys of eating this growing up in the 70s. Haven’t had this in so long, I would eat this at least once a week, cover the toast a load of butter & sprinkle even more cinnamon on the top. My kids grew up on this stuff too, it was too good to miss.
27 This dinner set
My grandparents had one of these in Red! They always had food on the table no matter what time of the day it was that dinner set would always be full of delicious treats. it takes me back to being a kid again seeing this photo!
28 TAB drink
Coca-Cola, Pepso or TAB, which ones were your favorite? I would always order this drink every time my family ate out. TAB over Cola anyday, I wonder why they stopped doing it? It was such a popular drink back in the 70s & 80s.
29 Roller skates
We all had a pair of these with pom poms on the front that we would always be playing with with the neighbors kids. Did you have a pair of ice skates just the same as well? We thought we were so cool at the time with these.
30 Neopolitan Ice Cream
Perfect for after any dinner party. Who didn’t love a bit of ice cream and jelly, I mean I still do!
31 Telephone
Who had one of these on the wall of the kitchen? I always hated how the cord would get tangled around your hair and neck & the fact you couldn’t get away to gossip with your friends, you would have to whisper to them while your family were sat in the same room as you.
32 Candy cigarettes
We all loved pretending we could smoke just like our parents! Back when we didn’t realise just how dangerous smoking was, we use to pretend we could smoke ourselves, before we could afford the real things!
33 Meal sets
We would have these on a Saturday night in front of the TV! I remember these TV dinners used to be scoulding hot you would sit there waiting for it to cool down for half an hour before you could touch it!
34 Caramel Apples
Mmmmmm, they were amazing! Who didn’t love them? Do you remember the 70s commercials for these? I used to get so excited when I got one of these, they were so delicious I wonder why they ever stopped doing them?
35 Saver stamps
Did you have these in your kitchen cupboards? My mum would collect them and get some nice gifts sometimes at Christmas! I remember her buying a huge dinner set from the supermarket, she had it for absolutely years & never wanted to get rid of it!
36 Coca Cola Bottles
Who remembers these? Do you remember the Pepsi bottles as well? My mom would get a whole load of these every week, whenever she took the garbage out you could hear all of the bottles bashing together in the trash can!
37 Chocolate snaps
They were hard as rock!! Chocolate snaps were my favorite cookies of all time, we all grew up on them! I wonder why they stopped selling them?
38 Butterscotch pudding
We used to have these for our school dinners, along with Chocolate snaps. How could we forget about this stuff? I think this butterscotch pudding was one of the best things your mom could come home with from the grocery store!
39 Coke floats
They will always remind me of summers growing up! Even though A&W coke floats were the best ever, we couldn’t always get our hands on one….so we had to make our own at home. They might not have been as good but they were the closest thing!
40 Dinner set
Did you have this dinner set? My mom got a set just like this one Christmas from my grandpa, these things would last for forever & they somehow never ever broke! This photo is giving me serious nostalgia, takes me back a few years or so!
41 Making popcorn on a stove
This takes me way back to growing up & spending time with my mum & siblings making popcorn! Who remembers making popcorn on a weekend?
42 Popsicle mould
This takes me back to playing out with friends in summer. What did you used to fill yours up with? My mum used to mix nesquick chocolate with milk & put it in these popsicle moulds. Sounds disgusting, but they were absolutely amazing! Try it & thank me later!
43 Riddle cups
Who had these when they were little? Do you remember the commercial for these things? Was so catchy! I think you could find these things in every kitchen in the 1970s!
44 Pizza Hut cups
Did you have a cupboard full of these cups like I did? Remember the coca cola cups from McDonalds back in the 00s? They reminded me so much of these! My gran had so many of these cups, she kept them for when her grandkids came round to visit her.
45 Root beer barrel candy
Who remembers these? You could get a huge bag of pick n mix sweets from the grocery store on a Saturday morning whilst out shopping with your mom and they would last you all wee until the next time. These sweets take me right back to my youth!
46 McDonalds Meal
It was always a treat when your parents would get you a McDonalds at the end of the week! A cheeseburger happy meal was always my go-to McDonalds option. Everytime I pass the Drive Thru, I have to get the same meal over and over again.
47 These sets
We used these for flour, sugar, coffee etc…My sister’s mother-in-law bought her a set just like this for her wedding – she’s kept it in her pantry all this time & still uses the set. Every time I see them in her house they just take me right back to my childhood.
48 Nestles Quick
I loved the banana and chocolate stuff way more & would always be so disappointed when my mum would come home from the grocery store with the Strawberry stuff (she always preferred it better) & we would only get the chocolate one at Christmas!
49 Moonpie
Who loved this stuff growing up? I used to love it when my mom came home from the grocery store with a load of these. I just knew we were going to be in for a good week for school lunches!
50 Banana bread
Everyone made banana bread growing up…my friends mom would even make zuchini bread – it sounded god awful but it always made the best dessert!
