What things make you smile when you think back to your childhood? Was it remembering about a particular toy or game or, maybe, a day at the seaside. Were you exited about going to see ‘Grease’ with your friends or something really simple like queuing for an ice lolly in a summer where every day was hot and sunny!
Take a look at what made me happy when I was growing up – I hope it puts you in a good mood for the day!
1 Lyons Maid Fab Ice Lolly
Sprinkles. Chocolate coated top, dipped in sprinkles. Do I need to go on? Did you bite off all the topping first, like me?
2 Smash Hits
I looked forward to reading this every fortnight! Neil Tennant ,from The Pet Shop Boys, was one of the original editors before he hit the big time!
3 PG Tips Adverts
These were so amusing , especially ‘moving the piano’ one! Nice checked shirt Mr Chimp!
4 Birds Trifle
You didn’t need any baking skills to make this, it was so easy and delicious! Remember the little cellophane packet with the sprinkles – my sisters and I used to argue about who was going to sprinkle!
5 Bewitched
Great kids show with Samantha and her special powers when she twitches her nose. Her husband was Darrin and her daughter, Tabitha
6 Listening To Records
This was just the best – listening to a new single or LP over and over again until we remembered all the words. I had my records stacked in alphabetical order in the record rack!
7 Catweazle
An 11th Century wizard travels through time by accidentally immersing himself in water and wakes up in 1969. He befriended a boy called Carrot!
8 Dipping Rhubarb
I so remember dipping rhubarb from our garden into sugar as it was so very sour. I think we also used icing sugar, if we had any.
9 Smiths Football Crazy
Delicious corn snacks that melted on your tongue. The bags were tiny though and didn’t hold many ‘footballs’. You could send away tokens to receive a football strip.
10 Chocolate Machines
There was a Nestle one outside our local sweet shop. We used to get Dairy Crunch chocolate for 5p!
11 Crackerjack
There are different presenters over the years – Peter Glaser was the original one. There was a game where you collected toys and games and if you dropped one you had to carry a cabbage!
12 10p Mix
You could get a lot of sweets and chews for 1pin the olden days! Fruit salad chews and liquorice shoe laces would be in there!
13 Duty Free
Two couples become friends (or not) when they meet on holiday in Marbella. One of the couples is very Northern and the other very posh! It was filmed in Leeds at the Yorkshire TV Studios!
14 Chewing Nuts
You really used your jaw when chewing these toffees! They weren’t real chocolate, only chocolate flavouring but still delicious!
15 Donny and Marie
I admit it – I bought “I’m leaving it all up to you”! They had their own show, only aired in America but occasionally t was shown here as a ‘special’.
16 Sewing
Now this takes me back to a place I had completely forgotten about – sewing practice using different stitches. Mine didn’t look anywhere as neat as this though!
17 Auf Weidersehen Pet
Really good comedy drama with Timothy Spall, Kevin Whately and Tim Healy making early tv appearances. It was about seven labourers who went to Dusseldorf to wok and live – very entertaining.
18 Clash of the Titans
Warner Bros did a remake in 2010, but did you thin it was as good as the original?
Gosh, these really take me back, especially the sewing image!
